Nicaragua’s proximity to the Equator causes the country to experience only two distinguishable seasons: the dry (late November to May) and the rainy (June to October). As well, the amount of daylight during the year varies only a maximum of 50 minutes.

The Tropical Dry Zone covers the Pacific coastlands and the areas around the lakes, where Managua and Granada are located. Temperatures here average between 77ºF (25ºC) and 86ºF (30ºC). Annual precipitation is from 27 ½ inches (700 mm) in the dryer areas to 59 inches (1,500 mm) in wet zones.

In other parts of the country, temperatures can fall below 68ºF (20ºC) and rise above 90ºF (32ºC). Precipitation can be as much as 200 inches (5000 mm) in the south-eastern part of the country.
